Banh Mi with Kalamata Olive Paste

If you already fall in love with Banh Mi, the iconic Vietnamese sandwich, you can try making Banh Mi with Kalamata Olive Paste to enjoy a special and healthier version.

“That’s a symphony in a sandwich” is how Anthony Bourdain described the most famous Vietnamese sandwich called the Banh Mi. This Vietnamese specialty has been ranked as one of the best sandwiches in the world for many years.

Banh Mi is a crunchy baguette with a harmonious combination of meats, vegetables and sauces. It is usually filled with pork, paté, cucumber, pickles, coriander, etc., and chili sauce to bring together the sweet, salty, sour and spicy flavors in every single bite.

With Kalamata olive paste replacing meat paté, you can make yourself a healthier Banh Mi and try a new taste.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Baguette
  • 2 tablespoons Kalamata olive paste
  • 113 – 117g meats of any kind (grilled pork, cold cuts, chicken, beef, etc.)
  • 3 – 4 slices of cucumber
  • 1 fried egg
  • Coriander, pickled carrot, kohlrabi
  • Chilli sauce and ketchup (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise

How to make:

Step 1: Slice off the top 2/3 of the baguettes lengthwise.

Step 2: Spread 2 tablespoons of Kalamata Olive Paste on one side and 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on another.

Step 3: Fill the baguettes with meats, cucumber slices, fried egg, and coriander, pickled carrot, kohlrabi. Then add chili sauce and ketchup as your preference.

Step 4: You can enjoy Banh Mi immediately or put it in the microwave to heat it up for a better taste.
